Gender, Age and Social Networks

A study on the social networks of older British people finds that women gain a greater mental health benefit from having a broad group of friends, while men benefit more from their familial relationships. One in ten of the 6,500 people surveyed reported having no friends and one in seven had no contact with their extended family. The study is published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.
