Marina Watanabe discusses why feminism focuses on the oppression of women. The pursuit of gender equality does not mean that the word and ideals of feminism are exclusionary of men. In fact, feminism does address how patriarchy affects people of all genders. The comments on this video alone prove why feminism is relevant. People are critiquing Watanabe’s education (yes as in the fact that she’s educated) and her looks (including the perceived problem of a woman wearing a nose ring). All of the gendered insults at women who write supportive comments about the video are also revealing.

  1. RandomHelpingGuy Women are considered a minority in social status, as men have more political and economic power. Your nonsensical comparison to Barack Obama suggests there’s racism motivating you as well as sexism. I’ve had a look at your personal stream and I see a lot of misogyny, including rape jokes. I don’t engage with trolling. Good luck to you as you work through your misaligned anger towards women.

  2. I know exactly what you mean. Men can not only have a nose ring, but tattoos all over their face and surgically implanted horns and people still treat them with respect and consideration, but a woman gets a nose ring and her arguments are immediately discounted.
